Bio: Worked with computers most of my life, now getting paid to do it, not very much but it's still money. Unfortunately don't have anything on paper saying I know what I know so I'm sorta stuck in a rut for a while ...

If the computer boots up before the modem synchronizes with the newtork it will assign itself a 169 series ip. Never boot the pc before the modem is online. -atomicbill
for those pesky 169.x.x.x that just wont go away, I allways found out to delete all tcp/ip and client for ms and add em back in, then reboot. problem is 90% of the time resolved.......and the "hotmale" story is so funny. same thing happened here with a lady worked with when we first got hired. -rednecks

hello. i just wanted to say hi to a fellow bs worker. i am currently employed in the asheville bs callcenter, for both dial and dsl, and i have to disagree with you on one point-- the oakridge callcenter is not better than ashevilles, yes we are dysfunctional internally, and yes we have some bad techs, but overall, we are not that bad. kingstree and huntington (which is now closed), well, i could write all day about the recent audit in kingstree and how their staff was severly reduced because of stupidity, but i have had a few from oakridge who have dial up tech support ( all 3 of them were ps's) to find out how to set up oe. not to mention the tech agent there with a dsl cu who was having problems with his back up dial, and she literally screamed at me when i wouldnt take the call ( in dial, we dont handle dsl cu's. period. not my problem unless im working dsl). anyways, at least your out of it now, with the economy the way it is in western nc, this is the best paying job i can get, so im stuck for a while, so count your blessings. -Kittypurpl
# Ok, There is more than a parallel port, you just can't see it for the power supply they got on it...i guess this is why they made it so you can twist it around. Also sound and video was onboard and there is a modem card in the top slot, but at the angle the pic was taken you can't really see it. So you must be smelling something else fishy. -phsspok -phsspok
Hey now! I'm in B-ton also. And, I'm one of your customers! But, I promise, I'm not a starfish so I'll never call you and ask if the Internet is down :) Seriously, I'm pretty impressed with my Insight service, it rarely goes down...of course, I only live a mile from the building on Henderson, so that probably helps! -Jenzkind
