Bio: I've been working at an outsourcer in BC for almost two years now. Started off as a tech for a three letter ISP and then moved to work for a two letter OEM.

Ok, I can see your point on the phone issue, I personally work in an area where phones do not disconnect if noise is an issue, so I tend to forget that that can happen. I'll remember to take a break next time I have a rant about a fellow tech or tech support in general. I'll offer my appology to you personally, since I never meant to piss off any member of TSC. My own personal use of HP support was not the best I have had. I ordered an ink cartridge and got it, it had no red ink, or it at least did not print red. Called support for a replacement, and the support agent refused to warranty my 3 year old printer. I had to speak slowly to her and explain multiple times I simply wanted a different cartridge. Every one makes mistakes, and I know for a fact I have meade my share of them when manning the phones, but this one struck me wrong. -DataSolutions Bynar, we would love to talk to that guy. That is quite probably the best example of professionalism in the face of a hostile customer I have ever heard. He should be commended for the fantastic job he did on that call. -RiffRaff I see that you also work for said two-letter OEM. Wouldn't be so bad if I could deal with Canadian customers. Less @ssholes per capita. :) -soccerdude Hey, ive got money that says you work with one of the coolest people ive ever met Online :D -MrThou Now that ive seen your email address, i am sure of it! -MrThou Hey, ive got money that says you work with one of the coolest people ive ever met Online :D -MrThou Sorry about the double post. My friend Karla who also works there :) -MrThou Feel free to forward it to the tech who took that gawdawful call. -vacuumtubes BTW, if you haven't seen, I've improved the hammer call ditty. Just look on 2/6 for the Improved Link posting...I think you'll like this one better. -vacuumtubes Looks like we work for the same company, only I'm on the east coast. -Dory The HD in this case is high density in reference to the ram, not hard drive...;) -TechZilla lemme have 'em, pleeeease. i leave for work in 30min. if i have to sit there again like last nt, i'll go stark raving mad. -omegawolf bynar, what's up w/ those proxy hoppers ya mentioned? -omegawolf goatsed is that same as mooning? -burrkiss Hey, I want a copy of that call :) -Hellion I have the blue wall! you must be across the hall! -Nuvan Actually, I am dOwn the hall. (capitals...) -Nuvan Bynar, I'm correcting you, you're wrong. The floating lens screen saver was in the Win98 Plus pack, in one of the themes. I think it may also have been a free download, available for NT4 and later. -chazz RAS Error 678 can be caused by "modem compatability issues." Example: New Customer was getting very slow modem speeds and disconnects. Old ISP worked fine. I bring my laptop, which usually connects very well, to their home. I get error 678 on the other ISP's number, and get a 19K connection our number. Usually I can connect to our ISP number just fine. So what was different? Phone lines! So I connect an external US Robotics to my laptop. Bang, I'm on at 50.6. And of course the external modem helps their computer to connect as well. So, the telephone lines had a problem, and different modem combinations at either end made a difference. We now stock and external USR modem as a "lender". If it helps, we tell the customer where to go buy one, and they don't have to risk buying one needlessly. -CyBear Love the Windows noises page! Thanks for making me laugh! -Tekkie Well it appears as though we work for the same company, only i'm down in SW ontario ; ) -tiredofqueue i'm sending out a card for persephone, what's your mailing address -omegawolf I don't remember the websites off the top of my head, but if you reply to this, I'll just e-mail them to you. Each one will fit on a single floppy and they essentially do a DUN uninstall/reinstall on 9x/ME and rebuild the TCP/IP stack on 2k/XP. All the customer has to do is follow the on-screen instructions. I've tested them both on customer's machines and they work great, especially the one for XP. I spent over an hour with a customer trying to resolve XP TCP problems. Finally e-mailed him the utility which he downloaded to floppy from another computer, and bang! he was up and running. Let me know if you want them. They're freeware. -RiffRaff Tried twice to send you the utilities, but message bounced back both times. Try e-mailing me again to be sure I have the proper address. Thanks, -RiffRaff I saw your note in dijinn's post about the gmail code. I emailed you ages and ages ago about an extra one I'd gotten. My supply keeps replenishing itself. You never replied, so I assumed you weren't interested. I have one left. -mousie yes I did work for Future Shop, it was the worst 4 months of my life -Bunglehawk069 Like Riff I could use some more info on your "at least XP sp2 now has a 5-second winsock reset. -Bynar" comment. -Rabbitt Ditto, would definately like more info on this winsock reset PLEASE!! :) -AceXMachine Bynar -- Didn't know you were near Vancouver. I'm getting an expedition together to go to the Pacific NW BBQ -- you interested? -chazz The two-letter OEM? heh... If you work @ the place that means "moving water"... we've got to find each other sometime... Do you live in the Land of Corn? --- Chill whack? -renaultguy Gotta be XX... -Bynar
Does your two letter OEM have a blue logo? -evolution Working for a satalite provider, yes the customers do call and complain about commercials they don't like, channels they don't like, billing they don't like, weather they don't like, installers they don't like, technicians they don't like, troubleshooting steps they don't like, and all other manner of complaints, most of which have nothing to do with the us as a "connectivity" provider(we get feeds from stations and conglomerates which we then broadcast. We are not responsibel for anything you may see on tv except the commercials for our satalite service.) -Twike Hello, kinda interested in those screenshots. If you could send them to shiftedbeef@gmail.com that'd be great! Thanks. -ShiftedBeef If you go to their website (ubuntu.com?) you can get the live cd sent to you for no charge. I had trouble burning the ISO too, and that's what I did. They sent me one for Mac, one for 32 bit systems and one for 64 bit- free. -ThinTheHerd Yah, I work for St.Ream here in London. You're in BC so can I assume you also work for them? -AdeptusMechanis
